The Search Begins

On September 3, 2014 our Board Chairman, Rob Faisant, announced that the Board has begun its search for the next President/CEO of Mount Hermon. In an email that went first to staff alumni, supporters and friends of the ministry and then to all constituents, Rob explained that a succession planning task force of the board has been meeting for several years seeking to ensure a smooth transition of leadership. From the outset, the intent was to anticipate Roger Williams’ eventual retirement from the post and perhaps allow for overlap of a successor. Since Roger’s diagnosis with cancer in 2012, this advance planning has continued with the intent to utilize Roger in areas of his giftedness and passion as his health allowed even after the transition occurred. Regrettably, with Roger’s recent home-going that opportunity is lost.

A national search firm, The Dingman Company, (dingman.com), has been engaged to facilitate the process. They have successfully conducted many high-profile executive searches for large churches, para-church ministries and Christian colleges and universities. The board is confident that The Dingman Company understands both the spiritual and organizational leadership qualities that will be needed, and that they will be successful in finding a number of qualified candidates.

The Dingman Company will work with a search committee comprised of Board members, Trustees, executive staff members and Associates. For an Opportunity Profile, or to suggest a possible candidate, contact Warren Schuh, Vice President, at [email protected].

Alden Johanson, our Chief Operating Officer, is serving as Acting President/CEO during the interim until Roger’s successor is inaugurated. He has served in this capacity intermittently during Roger’s brief medical leaves in recent years. Alden has been a part of Mount Hermon’s leadership team since 2000 and has the full confidence of our board and staff.

Roger was excited about the coming transition. “I’m looking forward to seeing who God has raised up to lift us to new levels of vision and outreach in the days to come,” he said, in a recent video announcement about the anticipated transition. He has clearly laid a foundation upon which they will be privileged to build.

Please keep us in prayer in the weeks and months to come as the search progresses.  Pray that the person whom God has been preparing will be receptive to His call, and that the search committee will recognize him or her and be confident and unanimous in their selection. Pray, as well, for a seamless transition to follow
