Trust Issues

The last two years I have been on an interesting journey. I know that many, if not most of you will remember David Talbott. Dave served on staff at Mount Hermon for over 40 years, and during his last six years on staff he served as the Director of the Redwood Society.

When Dave retired two years ago, I was honored to assume this role, working with those supporters who have remembered Mount Hermon in their will or estate plans.

The journey I have been on is one of learning, listening, and working with people who are excited to see their impact extend far beyond their lifetime.

One of the things I have learned is that six out of ten adults don’t currently have a will or trust. At first I was surprised, and then I realized taking time to sit down with a lawyer and think about a will is the last thing many of us have time for. Church on Sunday, small group on Monday, kids’ sports on Tuesday and Thursday – life is busy! I began to ask myself, “Is there a way we can help people think about their futures and take care of their families that is quick, affordable, and easily accessible?”

That’s when we began talking with Christian Trustmaker. Christian Trustmaker is a faith-based service that helps people prepare a will or trust in about 90 minutes for a fraction of the cost of working with a lawyer, under $400! My wife Laurie and I created our trust with Christian Trustmaker earlier this year and so have a number of our staff.

Over the years I have seen a number of instances where the lack of a will or trust has led to confusion and pain when families lose a loved one. That is why I am so excited about our partnership with Christian Trustmaker. Families will no longer have to worry about a lengthy probate process or about a judge making decisions regarding assets or guardianship of children.

If you don’t currently have a will or trust, or you need an update, let us know. Our ministry partnership with Christian Trustmaker provides you a 30% discount.

Also, there is no obligation to include Mount Hermon in your plans, but if you do, we will cover the entire cost of creating your will or trust. It’s our gift to you.

If you, or someone you know, would like more information, please send me an email at We would love to be of service and answer any questions.

Many blessings to you and your family!

About the Redwood Society

The Redwood Society is a dedicated group of individuals and families who have chosen to make a lasting impact by including Mount Hermon in their will or estate plans.

If you have included Mount Hermon in your will or estate plans, let us know and we will invite you to our annual Redwood Society Banquet, where we celebrate how God is at work and using estate gifts to transform lives at Mount Hermon.
